The Bump In Your Arch May Be An Accessory Navicular

Accessory Navicular can cause arch pain in Houston kids and athletesMany people have a prominent bump above the arch of their foot. This can be caused by a small, extra bone known as an accessory navicular. While this bone has no function, it can become infllamed and painful. It is also embedded within the strong posterior tibial tendon which also has the potential to become inflamed and painful, especially in those with flat feet.

The treatment for an inflamed accessory navicular, known as Accessory Navicular Syndrome, is often managed through conservative means. In cases where conservative therapy fails to alleviate the arch pain, foot surgery may be recommended by your Houston foot and ankle surgeon.

If you have been suffering from a painful bump in your arch, do not suffer anymore. Relief can be found by visiting the Foot & Ankle Institute of Texas for a comprehensive evaluation to determine what treatment can provide the most complete relief. I think I may have had this condition about 8 or 10 years ago. Had to stay off of it for a while. Every morning it would be tight as could be. Could barely even step on that foot. It would loosen up as the day went along, but it was rough.
